A long time ago, back when I was still in college, an American friend sent me this Claddagh ring. These traditional Irish rings are given as symbols of friendship or are worn as wedding bands. It's actually the only ring I've ever worn (which will undoubtly change once Joke and me have our church wedding next August :P).
Obviously this shot was tampered with. I snapped the image yesterday evening under fluorescent lighting. Since the color temperature was more than a little bit off, and it was getting late, I decided not to fuss around trying to find the correct skin tones. Instead, I played around with some of the development presets I recently downloaded for Lightroom.
For the image above I used one of the '300' presets (to give your image that dark yellow/brown look from the movie 300). It won't work on all images. That is, you can apply it to any image you like, but it won't always come out the way you'd expect. Lightroom development presets are basically a good starting point to kickstart your post-processing, not the final step. If you're a Lightroom user you should definitely check some of these out.

@Hinah: You're welcome :) Thanks for the wonderful comment!
the 300 effect works nicely on this one but the composition and focus really pull the eye into the ring. Great shot all around.
I've been using those lightroom presets too - they are great!

@Jason Kravitz: Those Lightroom presets are indeed an excellent starting point when you post process your images. I absolutely love them. Thanks for commenting!
gorgeous... and you're selling me on Lightroom, which I've been debating! thanks for the info!

Great symbolism... something really clean and neat about this image that I like a lot.

Excellent! I've got one of those rings I got in england while I was living there years ago! :) I don't know if I should get lightroom or photoshop? But I know I need to get one of them!

@Sandrine: Lightroom will get you quite far in terms of post processing. There's only been a handful of situations where I had to go into Photoshop because I couldn't do what I wanted inside of Lightroom. And, on top of that, you get a kickass catalog system to boot.
